Lizzie Borden (20s-30s) Female-Identifying
High belt: F#3-F#5 (belt to A5 if possible)
The lead singer of our story. Impulsive and unforgiving. She has some tenderness beneath the surface but it is rarely seen. Gives no bullshit and takes no bullshit, using her infamy from her supposed violent act to give herself societal agency.
Emma Borden (30s-40s) Female-Identifying
Alto/mezzo belt: F#3-D5
Lizzie’s older sister. Has always acted as a mother figure for Lizzie, stoking Lizzie’s impulses so she is never the one to blame. Sinister and furious but desperately sad.
Bridget Sullivan/Maggie (20s-30s) Female-Identifying
Contralto/low alto: F3 (w/E3 pick-up/ghost-notes in one number) – Eb5 (E5 option in one ad lib)
The Borden’s Irish maid. Treated terribly by all of the Bordens, Bridget becomes an instigator of many of the terrible deeds that happen within the house.
Alice Russell (20s-40s) Female-Identifying
High mezzo lyric/mix/belt: G3 (w/F#3 pick-up/ghost-notes in one number) – A5 (legit soprano).
Lizzie’s friend and lover. A rare light in Lizzie’s world, Alice tries to pull Lizzie away from the violence and terrors of her life. Romantic and passionate.
