Snow in July. Comets falling from the sky. The world is thrown into chaos as Cupid, a Latine god, rips off her wings and gives up on love. But her old flame, Saint Valentine, has a plan to lift her spirits: reignite the spark between Alejandro and Benny, two queer souls navigating heartbreak. Moving from the Heavens to Hackensack, I Wanna Fuck Like Romeo and Juliet is a love story of epic proportions that captures the many flavors of queer love - with all its beauty, chaos, pain, and joy.

• The Station Theatre is casting 6 roles (2 Female-presenting actors and 2 Male-presenting actors 2 any). Please review the character descriptions below.

• No roles are precast, all roles are open.

• Actors of all backgrounds and ethnicities are welcome and  encouraged to audition.

• Callbacks, if necessary, are scheduled for February 22th at 9am.

• Roles of Cupid and Alejandro must be able to speak English and Spanish. 

• The Poet must be able to tell a story through words and voice. This person should also be able to do multiple voices.

• Intimacy requirements are subject to change pending casting. An Intimacy Director will collaborate with actors to stage all scripted intimate moments.

NOTE: I Wanna Fuck Like Romeo and Juliet contains strong language, adult themes, and violence. The production may utilize flashing, flickering and/or strobing lighting effects, and the use of theatrical haze and smoke.

To Audition: You do not need to prepare a monologue. Instead, you will be asked to perform readings from the script at the audition. Please review the sides and look at all character descriptions before auditioning. We will have actors up and down to read multiple times in multiple combinations and scenes. As space allows, you will be able to watch the auditions. Actors may be asked to “work” on a scene with a scene partner during the audition. Actors may be asked to read for multiple roles. If an actor is only interested in one specific role, the director should be reminded during auditions.
The Station Theatre strives to make our productions open to all levels of actors regardless of experience, aiming to make the audition a fun and relaxed experience.

Character Descriptions:

The Gods
CUPID - God of Love. Appears as a Latiné woman in her twenties to thirties. Puts on a bitter, hard exterior. Incredibly heartbroken and tired. Fierce and Ferocious. Speaks Spanish and English. Intimacy requirements: Closed mouth kiss with Valentine, and Alejandro. Open mouth kiss with Betti. Intimate touching with Valentine and Betti.
VALENTINE - Patron Saint of Love. Appears as any ethnicity, slightly younger than Cupid. Joyous, a rascal - more of a trickster than a saint. Believer in Love, completely and indefinitely. Intimacy requirements: Closed mouth kiss with Cupid and Benny. May include intimate touching with Cupid, and Benny.

THE POET-God, or something like it. A voice. Also voices ALEXA, SCRUFF VOICES and REPORTER.

The Lovers
BENNY RANDLE - Mid-twenties Black Queer Man. Avoids the difficult questions by putting on a façade of ridiculousness and fabulousness. Lover to Alejandro. Mortal. Intimacy requirements: Closed mouth kiss with Valentine, Alejandro, and Betti. Intimate touching with Valentine and Alejandro. Preferred: comfortable with being shirtless, in boxers and sharing a bed with a male presenting person on stage.
ALEJANDRO DIAZ - Mid-thirties Latiné Queer Man. Runs from anything that can hurt him. Sedate and steady like water, and just as stubborn. Lover to Benny. Mortal. Speaks Spanish and English.Intimacy requirements: Closed mouth kiss with Cupid, and Benny. Intimate touching with Benny. Preferred: comfortable with being shirtless, in boxers and sharing a bed with a male presenting person on stage.

The Dental Hygienist
BETTI - A Woman of Color. A child of immigrants and a dental hygienist. In her thirties. Incredibly sad, incredibly eager. Looking for something new in her life. Mortal, with untapped potential for the Divine. Intimacy requirements: Closed mouth kiss with Benny, and Cupid. Open mouth kiss with Cupid. Intimate touching with Cupid and Benny.

4-6 understudies - These roles are critical in the case that we have actors unexpectedly unable 
to perform a show due to illness or another cause. These will be script-in-hand understudy roles
 which means you do not need to fully memorize the show. You will be required to attend 5
 rehearsals, including one tech in May, to make sure you understand the staging for the 
character(s) you are understudying. Understudies also need to be in town during the scheduled performances. You are welcome to attend any rehearsals and activities for the show.


Note on Rehearsals: First rehearsal will be March 8th 2026. Rehearsals will tentatively run Monday-Thursday, 6:30pm-9:30pm (subject to change pending casting.) Not all actors will be called every night at first.

Conflicts: Please list all conflicts between March 8th and May 17th (only need after 5pm M-Th, all day for Saturday & Sunday) on your audition form. No conflicts will be accepted from May 2nd-end of production.
